That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update. The game doesn't bombard players with ads; they can complete multiple rounds without buying anything, although some may want to purchase coins to get additional moves in certain levels.
Players may have questions about some game elements when they start, such as what they'll use the coins they earn to buy, but a number of aspects become clear as you play. Once a player reaches level 4, they can join a team; they can't directly contact other people in it, but players can participate in a group chat -- which doesn't appear to be monitored but utilizes a filter, so messages with swearing won't be shared.
They're given goals, such as clearing a certain amount of blue and yellow candy pieces or candied cherries in a set number of moves. Tapping on four or more same-colored candies creates a Choco candy, and lining two Chocos up next to each other forms a Cross Choco, both of which clear large sections of the board.
Players earn coins as they advance, which can buy extra moves if they run out in a round. This candy clearing game has above-average graphics and a steady -- yet not too fast -- pace, which may satisfy your puzzle playing sweet tooth. Sugar Blast is essentially ad-free, and players don't need to deal with any time limits. The only restriction is the number of moves you're given in each round, but in many of the early levels, you're given more than enough to clear whatever items you need to.
Players can use coins they've earned to buy additional moves if they run out -- you can only do that a couple of times before you'll have to buy additional coins. But you can also repeat the round at no cost, so you don't really need to spend any money to play the game. Older gamers may feel the initial levels are too easy: It seems like it'd be hard to not reach the goals you're given in at least the first 15 rounds. But things get more challenging in later levels, when players need to get the candies to fall to the bottom of the screen by, for example, breaking through a level of caramels, or gamers are forced to adjust their strategy as a rotating line continually causes the candies to shift.
At times, it seems like using Chocos and Cross Chocos are the only way to win, and they can be a bit hard to plan around because it's unclear exactly how many items they'll remove. That's a fairly minor issue, though, because overall, Sugar Blast provides a fun, progressively more challenging playing experience, without significant pressure to buy anything or sit through lengthy ads -- which, compared to many other apps on the market, is indeed a treat.
Families can talk about strategies to use when problem-solving. How can players create a plan to clear rows in Sugar Blast? Can you use these same tactics in real life when it comes to making plans? Can you think of a time when you've needed to adjust your original plan based on a change in a situation? Is this easier or harder for you to do? Does the stress of the moment intensify how tricky this can be?
