Amazon description specifically says: 2-year manufacturer limited warranty. I received this drive today. Before installing this drive, I attempted to register this drive at WDC.
COM for warranty coverage. WD site stated that this drive was on OEM product. Returned product to Amazon today. OEM drives are sold without accessories or installation software. OEM drives may not contain a warranty from Western Digital. The OEM computer manufacturer would include the hard drive under the warranty of the computer system that the hard drive was installed into.
For more information about hard drive warranties, please see our Warranty Policy. If you want a warranty, do not order this drive. Drive is not new Received the "New" drive today. Didn't have the usual "Blue" label on the drive and since I was purchasing a new GB Blue drive I started to wonder. Had the Black Drive label but didn't say Black. Next, looked at both the date on the label Hmmm not to old for a new hard drive Next I decided I'd check the warranty on this "new" drive. It also does not have any warranty status.
Not that the warranty is expired but that there is no warranty information on this drive because it is Out of Region per WD's website. Last thing I checked for was is there any wear on the gold pins where the SATA and power connections plug into the drive. Guess what folks Oh, did I mention the drive was resealed in a static bag and not the original that it usually comes in?
So in the end No way guys. Side note, I own and run a computer repair and business network services company in Rohnert Park, CA. I know what I'm looking at when as it relates to this drive. This drive sold by hard drive geeks is not a new in box hard drive. It is a "pulled" OEM drive. The listing states that WD will cover the 2 year warranty, but after looking up the serial number on WD's website, it has no Warranty because it is an OEM drive.
Just a FYI. These latest drives have a thin piece of aluminum foil on top, protecting the drive mechanism from the outside work. Amazon only has a 30 day return policy, so 4 drives go in the trash. I used to work at Western Digital, and their quality and design has gone way down hill. Hard drives are fragile, but not so fragil and a slight bump will destroy the workings of the drive.
There is no protection and a soft case is no way to built a drive. These are junk. I ordered a 2 TB 2. Instead, I received a 1 TB drive. I would chalk this up to a simple mistake but there appears to be a deeper issue. When I look at the product page it says at the top: You purchased this item on November 6, Capacity: 2TB Style: 2.
Be careful if you order the 2 TB 2. Will update if I hear back from seller. If lucky you'll get a fast one if not then get ready for snail speed! Below average consistency According to a very popular user benchmark website The range of scores 95th - 5th percentile for the WD Blue 1TB average is This is a relatively wide range which indicates that the WD Blue 1TB performs inconsistently under varying real world conditions.
I've had good experiences with WD drives in the past, never have I had one fail on me to date, ever. That said, I do handle my tech with care. This led me to purchase 2 of these drives; both are running firmware ver. They both look exactly the same and the manufacturers dates are only a few months apart. Trouble is one of them is waaaaay out performing the other one.
Come to find out this is typical of the WD Blue drives. So what I'm getting at here folks is, if you're not a lucky person then you'll likely be singing the blues if you buy this drive, pun intended. If you do decide to pull the trigger all I have to say is See all reviews.

I was shocked to see on the label that it was manufactured on 31st January Then having partitioned it, I looked at the SMART data which showed it had been used for 4 hours and had many defective sectors.
Then I tried to clone my laptop HDD which is why I bought the drive and after several hours it aborted with over 8, errors. This HDD is rubbish. I have never had such a wafty drive, ever. How dare they sell these drives as new. Worked fine for 3 days. Then Didn't show on lappy it was a second drive so it booted fine.
Removed it and put it in a harddrive USB case. I could hear it starting up but then it just clicks and stops. Works perfectly in a PS4 Pro, full capacity available without issue. Great Product at a reasonable price. Report abuse. Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations.
