It's an incredibly immersive So, there begins a fight between them. During this sweet struggle, they fall for each other but each of them is so dense that they cannot believe the other person feels the same thing. So, many funny things happen till they come to their senses. If so, I can wait. Just checking. They are so cute while fighting that both the monologues in their heads and the dialogues between them cracked me up.
All of them are. The agent Dick and Auntie Waldine play an important role in the book, as well. They make plans behind their backs so that they can see that they are perfect for each other. They are so very funny. Especially the aunt was something else. She also has friends and they gather at night and have sessions, talking to the dead. Some crazy woman she is!
Her interactions with Maddie were all super fun. All characters are very-well portrayed and they each contribute to the story a great deal. But it was OK, some jealousy is always good at the beginning. In time, the emotional bond between them also grows strongly. If you hate Mason in the first few chapters, please go on because he will definitely win your heart. Watching her laugh - knowing that I made her laugh - makes me want to pound my fists on my chest like Tarzan.
But I only sit there beside her, drinking in the musical sound and resisting the violent need to cut it off by crushing my mouth against hers. This is getting pathetic. I need to get away from her before I make a complete fool of myself and start spouting poetry. We could go bowling. Work off some of that rage. Stop staring at me like I just landed on your lawn in my spacecraft.
I admire Ms. Not every writer can write those scenes with all the feels. All those scenes makes you feel a lot… He straightens, takes my face between his big rough hands, and stares down at me with entire cities burning in his beautiful eyes. He sucks a little harder. In response, I wrap my legs around his waist and start to rock my hips against him, whimpering helplessly in pleasure and pulling on his hair. I see you. I see you, do you hear me? Body contained within buttoned-up blouses and sensible skirts, hair wound tightly in businesslike buns.
I did this. I feel like a god. And I want more. Or so terrified. This is everything I could ever want. This connection. This fire. I recommend it — period. You made it again. This is my type of book and you are one of the few writers who can do it the best. Please continue to write such books. I will be looking forward to many more like this. And please, don't upset us like you did in "Perfect Strangers", it left a bitter taste.
Well, this book has already made up for it : And, dear Ms. Geissinger, I am sorry for your loss. View all 61 comments. Rules of Engagement is a stand alone romcom by J. Usually in a review I would tell you how much you are going to fall in love with the Hero, and yes, you definitely are going to. But even more so, you are going to fall in love with Maddie.
Maybe most of all, you will fall in love with Maddie and Mason together, because these two are like toast and jam, bread and butter, or maybe more like oil and water. Mason Spark is a quarterback for the Pioneers. Drinking, womanizing, and just general bad behavior. His agent, Dick, who I also loved by the way, is determined not to let his client ruin his life. So he has decided that Mason needs a wife and has hired a matchmaker to find him his perfect mate.
Maddie McKee believes in love. She owns her own matchmaking business, Perfect Pairings and spends her life helping people to fall in love. Only it never happened for her. When Mason and Maddie first meet, sparks are flying, but maybe not in a good way. This book made me spontaneously laugh out loud so many times. And the rest of the time, I was smiling. The whole book was just adorable. As you can imagine, there is so much more to these two and I loved discovering what they kept buried so deep while they navigated the mine field between them.
It was fun but not in an over the top way. Just a pure pleasure to read. Geissinger continues to amaze me with every single book she writes. Each is so different from her others. If you want a sweet, fun, feel good book that just makes your world a little bit brighter, or maybe in this case, I should say, pinker, than I highly recommend this book.
I hope you love it as much as I did. For more about this book and so many more, come and visit me at Carol's Crazy Bookish World. View all 7 comments. Wow, I had a wonderful time reading this awesome romantic comedy. I really needed it after all the heavier books I have been reading and I definitely feel much lighter after finishing this one.
I still have a huge smile on my face This is one of the funniest " opposites attract " stories I have ever read and I fell in love with both the main characters. Maddie runs a matchmaking business, and being a believer in " true love ", she really enjoys her job, helping people finding the love of their lif Wow, I had a wonderful time reading this awesome romantic comedy.
Maddie runs a matchmaking business, and being a believer in " true love ", she really enjoys her job, helping people finding the love of their life. It's a bit sad she hasn't found her own prince yet, but she isn't bitter about it Mason is a famous quarterback and he is looking for a wife to clean up his image So his agent, Dick, signs him up at a matchmaking agency Perfect Pairings, which is owned by Maddie of course. The banter between these two left me in stitches.
I still have some muscle cramps from all the laughing I did. Both of them were hilarious. This book was the perfect amount of "funny" without getting to the point of being ridiculous or OTT. If you enjoy slow-built romances with a huge amount of fun, sarcasm, and chemistry, then you should definitely give this one a go!!
I also want to give some extra credit to Maddie's aunt Waldine and Mason's agent, Dick. They were pretty awesome in their own way ; An ARC was provided to in exchange for an honest review View all 16 comments. Oct 18, Isabella. Rom-Coms are my weakness, yet I don't find many of them funny, go figure! So, when my dear friend Annie gave it the thumbs up, I was a little anxious. Only because she is the class to my trash. We always agree on the love of reading but not always the reading material.
But then there's the moment we both adore the same book and we both happily grin Southern Belle, Maddie McRae is at wits end. You see Maddie believes in true love and happily ever afters. Taking on quarterback Mason Spark as a client was a huge mistake.
Especially when he admits to only needing a wife for PR purposes. But Maddie is no quitter. She is dead set on proving that a love match can be found even for the biggest cynic. My mistake was presenting lovely, intelligent, gracious single women who desired to meet equally lovely, intelligent, gracious single men. What Mason Spark needs is a lady gorilla. Bless his heart, Mason Sparks is misunderstood. However, as Maddie and Mason begin spending time together since she has nominated herself as his dating coach we quickly begin to see that maybe their perfect matches are both under their noses and there is more than meets the eye.
But if you give it a chance, you might find that all your broken pieces fit together perfectly to make a beautiful whole. Their banter was the best foreplay and with the helping hand from their own personal cupids Auntie Waldine and Dick watching them realise how perfect they were together, was hilarious and magical! So you admit it. You do have feelings for me. Like what? The list is long.

It had the perfect amount of humor all wrapped around witty and fun banter, all anchored by a sizzling slow burn romance that I couldn't get enough of.
Geissinger is an auto-read author for me. I don't even bother reading the blurbs to her books because I already know I'm going to read them. But when I saw she's coming out with something different from her usual, you know I had to read the blurb. Yet this is not exactly the type of trope you find often. Now don't get me wrong, this book totally stood out in its own unique right, and it hit every spot I never even knew I had.
Mason is a football superstar, and a royal grump. I'm talking the king of grumps here. He's a bit of a recluse and the only kind of woman he likes is a temporary one. But his agent is convinced that the only thing that would pull his terrible rep out of the pits of hell is a woman. Or a wife specifically. There's just one problem, Mason has the temperament of a bear with a thorn in his paw. In comes Maddie, matchmaker extraordinaire. She's a little prissy, a lot proper, with souther charm, a love of pink and mouth full of sass.
The two of them set off instant fireworks, and so begins the best banter of all time. Mason doesn't believe in love where Maddie loves love. She's determined to find Mason the perfect woman while he's convinced she doesn't exist. They snipe and snarl at each other at every step, and soon Maddie realizes that Mason doesn't just need a matchmaker, he needs a dating coach.
And off they go. You guys. These two had some of the funniest, cutest, and witty banter I've read in a while. The two of them set the pages on fire with their chemistry. And yet the slow burn sizzled so good, it actually made my ovaries hurt. True story. Maddie is the perfect southern belle to Mason's grump. He was so grumpy. I loved him. I loved her even more. Enter the most perfect secondary characters with Maddie's aunt and Mason's agent, and everything was just GAH.
I couldn't get enough of this story. Like I never wanted it to end. It was the cutest, quirkiest, sassiest, swooniest thing EVER. SO stinking good. If you're looking for a lighthearted, witty, and feel-good romcom, this will hit every spot for you. ARC courtesy of author in exchange for an honest review Find me on View 2 comments.
This book is f-wording fantastic!!! When Mason needs to clean up his public reputation, his agent sets up a meeting with a matchmaker to find him a wife. The minute Maddie walks into the room, Mason is a goner. I feel that smile all the way down to the darkest corner of my This book is f-wording fantastic!!! He f-words it up. I have huge amounts of adoration for Maddie. Notice the f-words? As Mason soon learns.
She was just as much fun as Mason and definitely a favorite heroine of all time. But under all of that beats a heart of gold that would do anything for the people he loves. To say his past has left him scarred would be an understatement. The humor was perfect without ever being juvenile. The chemistry between Maddie and Mason was felt from their first meeting and simmers throughout the story making this one sizzling slow burn.
I loved everything about this book. View all 32 comments. She's optimistic, pol 4. She's optimistic, polite, sweet - but also a control freak and has a serious obsession with the color pink. What she doesn't do is offer an escort services to her clients. Yet, she will do anything to prove that even the most cynical person can find true love His traumatic past has made him cynical, one who doesn't believe he deserves anything good Of course every romantic comedy needs some sort of crisis, but the way the author turned Maddie's ex into the "bad guy" was too exaggerated I could imagined him rubbing his hands and laughing in an evil voice.
T's books is her talent for building sexual tension that makes me want to pluck my hair off and drool all over the place - and than finish it with hot scenes that was totally worth the wait! Authors writing their heroine with barely any sex experience and if she has any she has had the most horrible sex ever. Oh but you can write OWs as sluts? You authors, give women a bad name. You make me sick. View all 3 comments. What the hay, I'm feeling generous today. Really this is more like a 4. What I do love about the book is the quick wit and dry humor. The back and forth banter between the MCs. He's like a bad-tempered gorgeous beast with the softest marshmallow heart.
She's like the tenacious flat-chested Southern belle libr What the hay, I'm feeling generous today. She's like the tenacious flat-chested Southern belle librarian who always sees the best in people. The fact that there's no undue drama helped me round things up. For example, toward the end, when Bobby the ex came blackmailing, things could have gone the melodrama route. But Maddie came back strong. I liked her unswerving loyalty.
She stood up for her man not once but twice! She saved him! She was the knight in shining armor in this novel, saving the supposed bad guy from a wrongful execution. I enjoyed this one. As you can see, having read the thing in 1 day. It's a winner. View all 5 comments. Feb 03, Malene rated it really liked it Shelves: romcom , slow-burn , enemies-to-lovers. I really enjoyed this wonderful romantic comedy which was so much more than a comedy.
An awesome package that just made me feel so damn good from start to finish. Every character in this story just shined. Especially Maddie and Mason because their chemistry and bantering were gold. So much fun and heat sizzling beneath the surface. Maddie helping Mason with finding the right woman for him turned out to be a game changer for the both of them.
The dialogue was witty and the story entertaining. Rule of Engagement was a wonderful and unexpected surprise. View all 8 comments. Mar 01, Giorgia Reads rated it really liked it Shelves: sports-romance , contemporary-new-adult-romance , read. I laughed a whole lot! The characters were ridiculously quick with their comebacks and in all honesty if this book was just a collection of introspective thoughts and quirky smart one liners then it would get a 5 star rating.
Buuut, this is supposed to be a rom-com of sorts and therefore it needs more in the way of plot development and storyline. Nothing much happened really, except a dizzying back 3. Enter her next client, Mason Sparks, who is the complete opposite of her. She is sweet and sophisticated where he is broody and crude. He doesn't believe in happily ever afters whereas her entire world depends on it. They couldn't be more different even if they tried but at the end of the day, they have one thing in common, and that is love and loyalty for each other.
I smiled hard the entire time I was reading this book, whether it was because of how adorable they were or sometimes even at their ridiculousness smh Yes, there were things I didn't like in this beautiful and adorable book. Also, wanna know how much you're gonna love this book? You ready? You did ask for three words, after all. I love you, too. So much. You think you could sneak into a jewelry shop and plunk down millions on a piece of ice in that town and nobody would hear about it?
View all 17 comments. I am giving this book 4. This book was a wonderful return to the quirky, witty, hilarious type of read that I so love from Ms. Geissinger after the major disappointment of her previous release "Perfect Strangers" sorry but that one totally sucked for me. This was a complete zinger I am giving this book 4. This was a complete zinger of a rom-com. I adore snarky, sassy, sarcastic banter so much and this book was a smorgasbord of such delightfully wicked humor.
Sadly for me , the football aspect is marginal at best and only really figures in at the end mentioning the Pats and Tom Brady a hundred times over does not make a sports romance; and that in Atlanta, of all places! That ship has fucking sunk. Carry me. As if. Her smile is wide and happy as she relaxes against me. That stuff tastes like gasoline. How can you stand it? I forgot. Are we going to stand here in the driveway all day?
This is surprisingly comfortable. Jan 26, Chris C - A Midlife Wife rated it it was amazing Shelves: adult-romance , romance , reviews , chick-lit , contemporary-fiction , rom-com. Amazing, funny, sweet Big sports star meets uptight female who is supposed to be helping them. However, Rules of Engagement is definitely above the bar.
The story started with me rolling my eyes just a bit but then as I progressed I found myself completely loving their battle of wits and fun interactions. Geissinger pulls all the stops out on this hil Amazing, funny, sweet Geissinger pulls all the stops out on this hilarious romantic comedy of errors. But it also shows how the right person can help put you back together.
Rules of Engagement is witty, laugh out loud and roll your eyes at the same time! A definite favorite for me! Jan 29, Emma rated it it was ok Shelves: didn-t-finish , they-are-so-dumb , typical-romance-mcs , may-reconsider.
At the beginning, I was enjoying and open for possibilities. But I lost interest when I figured, it's the usual story about the stereotypical and cliched MCs; the big, troubled, lonely, playboy and the petite, clueless which is stupid considering she is a matchmaker , uptight, Mary Sue.
And, even though they are opposites, there is one thing they have in common, they are both so dumb, it gave me a headache. If you can look past that, you may enjoy the story and find it cute. The characters thou At the beginning, I was enjoying and open for possibilities. The characters though not the brightest, are kinda sweet. So, it's okay considering all the garbage out there. And the writing is flawless.
